Policy for Arts, Children and Young People

Mission Statement

"To enable empowered learning and personal development in successive generations of young people in rural North-East Scotland, through shared artistic and musical expression of their culture."

To achieve this goal the Gaitherin will:

  • Place the young people and their needs, wishes and vision at the heart of the organisation and its work. Four places on the management committee will be allocated to young people and the Youth Committee will receive such support as is necessary to carry out their work of representing all young people involved in the Gaitherin.
  • Employ skilled musicians and artists able to employ a variety of appropriate learning methods to encourage self-confidence, enjoyment and creativity in young people, engaging the young people on their level of development.
  • Provide venues accessible to all young people, regardless of disability, in which planned activities can take place. These venues will be safe, comfortable and accessible. Every effort will be made to provide transport assistance where public transport links are lacking.
  • Provide financial assistance to those young people and their families, previously unable to access quality tuition, through part-funded places.
  • Recognise the need for good pastoral care to be in place during activities by the provision of experienced youth workers able to encourage and support the young people's development.
